M Series with Automation

M-Series CNC Machine with Automation for Optimal Panel Processing

The Onsrud 3-Axis M-Series is a compact and economical industrial moving gantry CNC router for machining panels of wood, plastic, foam, composites, aluminum, and other nonferrous materials. This machine is ideal for a wide range of panel processing applications, especially when floor space or budget is limited but production needs and expectations are not.

In this post, we’ve identified key aspects of the 3-Axis M-Series, fully loaded with automation options for optimal panel processing. With customized solutions, both linear and cell-based, you get as much or as little automation as you need.

Automated Infeed System

Instead of loading each sheet of material by hand, use a bunk loader or “scissor lift” system. You load a pile of material with a forklift into a designated area. The suction cup material-handling system picks up the material, one sheet at a time, and places it on the machining bed or infeed table (depending on your system). When the sheet is loaded into the machine, the bunk lift automatically adjusts its height to prepare to load the next sheet. This provides continuous loading without human intervention.

M Series Automation Infeed

Solid Infeed tables provide the support for large, thin, and flexible materials to keep materials from sagging as they are fed into the machine.

In-Process Material Alignment

Keeps material square in accordance with the machine’s zero position.

Table sizes range from 4′x8′, 5′x10′ and 5′x12′ with a standard Z-stroke of 11″.

Single or Multi-Spindle Options

Place two spindles on the same gantry for an economical solution to machining small or long skinny parts from panels. The spindles work in tandem, so no fear of head collision. By parking one of the spindles along the extended gantry, you have access to the full table for machining large parts.

Add a drill block to drill multiple holes at one time in configurable patterns to significantly decrease your processing time. This option is common for closet and cabinet shops or any applications that can benefit from quick, consistent drilling operations.

Hidden Tool Changer

With the Hide-A-Way® Tool Changer, the tool rack is hidden in its base at the end of the machine. As the spindle moves toward the tool door, it automatically opens for quick and easy tool changes. The door then closes to cover the tools not being used, thus keeping them clean, protected, and away from your cutting envelope as well as giving you access to the entire table.

M Series Atc

The M-Series comes standard with 10-position fixed ATC.

High-Speed Panel Processing

The M-Series comes standard with a 12 hp spindle speed.

With the rigid, steel frame construction of the M-Series, its laser-aligned gantry and spindle, responsive dual-drive mechanisms, and 12 hp motor, at 24,000 rpm, you’ll power through material quickly, reliably, and accurately. In this demo, 3/8″ compressed wood panel had a machining speed of 1620 inches per minute. Other materials have delivered 3600 ipm. Depending on characteristics of the material you’re processing, results will vary.

Automated Outfeed

Automated outfeed systems move your finished parts (especially heavy or bulky ones) safely and easily. With a Pusher/Sweeper system, finished parts are automatically pushed to an offload table to clear the machining area for the next sheet. While the “pusher” move parts to an offload table, the “sweeper” follows behind with a vacuum port and bristles to suck up any additional dust or debris.

FANUC® Controls

Operate the M-Series confidently with the intuitive standard touchscreen FANUC® controller or with Onsrud’s custom user-friendly controller interface built specifically for the M-Series.

Advantages:

  • The largest control manufacturer in the world.
  • Parts guaranteed for the life of the controller.
  • Peace of mind when it comes to reliability and longevity. They measure their downtime in decades: 52 years mean time between failures.
  • Every C.R. Onsrud FANUC control comes standard with the FANUC interface as well as our own user-friendly, touchscreen HMI, making it very simple for you to learn and operate. It provides a CNC operator with little experience or decades of knowledge the simplicity and functionality to save them time and save you money.

On the S-Series, the single table moves longways under the bridge, an ergonomic design that gives operators unobstructed access to three sides of the table for easy loading and unloading of large workpieces and tooling. It also allows for the easy integration of material-handling systems, transfer tables, and a wide range of automation alternatives.
