In this post, Ken Stissel with C.R. Onsrud (Troutman, North Carolina) introduces the 5-axis, fully enclosed EX-Series heavy-duty aluminum profile machining center. This machine is engineered for a number of industries, including: tractor trailer, marine, architectural aluminum, electrical vehicle, and aluminum window, door, and cladding.
Some options and key features of the EX-Series moving gantry machine include:
- 21′ x 14′ Work Area.
- 28″ Z-Stroke.
- 17-24 hp spindle (at 24,000 rpm)
- 5-Axis.
With 5-axis capability, you can machine the front, the back, the top, and each end without needing to reposition your workpiece.
- Clamping System.
Each one of its clamps are programmable and servo-driven, so that they can move throughout the program. For example, if you’re machining down the profile, a clamp can be programmed to move out of the way and continue processing all the way down without operator intervention.
- Quick setup and changeover.
Going from one profile to the next, depending on width, can be changed by simply moving the rear jaw in and out. If your profile changes shape, you can actually machine the shape of your profile into the jaws and do a quick changeover as well.
- Fully enclosed.
Contains debris and isolates the operator from the machining zone and airborne particles.
- Supports a 550mm diameter saw blade.
- Great for applications that require cutting, mitering, and notching of extrusions.
- Heavy-duty thick steel construction.
- 12-position automatic tool changer (24-position option) capable of changing out bits and saws as needed.
- Supports Pendulum Processing.
This technique allows the machine to cut and process material while the operator is at the opposite end loading material or unloading parts. The machine will go back and forth keeping that spindle running, so you’re getting as many parts out the door as possible.
- Chip conveyor system for efficient chip evacuation, keeping everything clean inside the machine.
- MQL Lubrication System for aluminum cutting.
- Automatic Grease Lubrication System for all the linear guides and ball screws.
- FANUC® controls, servos and drives provide, without question, the most reliable solution in the market. FANUC advantages:
- The largest control manufacturer in the world.
- Parts guaranteed for the life of the controller.
- Peace of mind when it comes to reliability and longevity. They measure their downtime in decades: 52 years mean time between failures.
- Every C.R. Onsrud FANUC control comes standard with the FANUC interface as well as our own user-friendly, touchscreen HMI, making it very simple for you to learn and operate.
- Manufactured in America.
Designed, fabricated, machined, painted, assembled, and shipped from our factory in Troutman, NC.
- Tailored to your needs from a wide range of options and built to last.
