In this post, Ken Stissel with C.R. Onsrud (Troutman, North Carolina) compares the X-Series and EX-Series Profile Machining Centers. Both are designed for the drilling, tapping, milling, and sawing of aluminum extrusions for a variety of applications, such as: window and door frames, truck trailers, utility trailers, campers, electric vehicles, boats, boat trailers, staging equipment for trade show booths, and any industry using aluminum extrusion.
The major differences between the two models are spindle horsepower capacity options and, of course, pricepoint.
Key standard features of the EX-Series include:
- 24 hp spindle.
- 550mm saw blade capacity.
- Servo-driven, independent clamp positioning system.
Key standard features of the X-Series include:
- 17 hp spindle.
- 400mm saw blade capacity.
- Manual positioning clamp system.
Both share a number of options and capabilities:
- Dual column, moving gantry machine with enclosure.
- Heavy-duty, welded steel high-speed gantry.
- Heavy-duty welded steel base.
- Handles material lengths starting from 13′ all the way up to 74′+
- Conveyor system down the center of the base for chip and scrap removal.
- Sheet metal enclosure for chip containment and safety.
- FANUC® controls, servos and drives provide, without question, the most reliable solution in the market. FANUC advantages:
- The largest control manufacturer in the world.
- Parts guaranteed for the life of the controller.
- Peace of mind when it comes to reliability and longevity. They measure their downtime in decades: 52 years mean time between failures.
- Every C.R. Onsrud FANUC control comes standard with the FANUC interface as well as our own user-friendly, touchscreen HMI, making it very simple for you to learn and operate.
- Clamping System for Quick Setup and Changeover.
For width adjustment, simply move the rear clamp into position. For profile changes, simply change out the jaw. Each clamp has rollers to allow for bringing in material from either end or supporting the material for loading/unloading. When it comes to clamp placement, we have an LED light string which shows the operator where to place each clamp. We also have options for auto position of the clamps. As noted earlier, the EX-Series comes with a servo-driven, independent clamp positioning system.
- Fully enclosed.
Contains debris and isolates the operator from the machining zone and airborne particles.
- 12-position automatic tool changer (24-position option) capable of changing out bits and saws as needed.
- Supports Pendulum Processing.
- Supports Pendulum Processing.
This technique allows the machine to cut and process material while the operator is at the opposite end loading material or unloading parts. The machine will go back and forth keeping that spindle running, so you’re getting as many parts out the door as possible.
- MQL Lubrication System for aluminum cutting.
- Automatic Grease Lubrication System for all the linear guides and ball screws.
- Manufactured in America.
Designed, fabricated, machined, painted, assembled, and shipped from our factory in Troutman, NC.
- Tailored to your needs and built to last.
