Joe Stangarone with C.R. Onsrud (Troutman, North Carolina) talks about a machine built for a furniture manufacturing client who needed the power and precision for cutting solid hardwood furniture parts. The client wanted to replace an older machine with one that provided more speed, high productivity, flexibility, and produced a high-quality finish.

That brought us to the Multi-Spindle E-Series. A heavy-duty, twin moving table machine that provides speed and flexibility.
How this machine will operate:
Two high-speed spindles will be simultaneously cutting parts on each of the twin tables to keep production flowing. Pendulum Processing used, which is a technique where you safely load material on or unload material from one table while machining is performed on the other. The 3rd high-speed spindle has 4th axis capability to support aggregates (specialized tooling) and will allow the client to machine the sides of their material without losing the time for refixturing. When two spindles are finished, they will part to the side. The 3rd spindle will machine features into the sides of the material. This keeps a continuous and highly efficient workflow, so they’ll produce more products with accurate, high-quality finishes, in significantly less time.
Materials:
Although this particular machine will be used to process solid hardwood, the E-Series is a valuable machine for a wide range of applications and materials, such as plastic, nonferrous metal, composites, and fiberglass as well as other wood-based applications.
Some options with the E-Series moving table, fixed bridge machine include:
- Twin 4′ x 5′ to 12′ x 12′ Table Sizes
- Up to 40″ Z-Stroke
- Up to 33 hp Spindle
- Configurable to up to 8 Spindles
- Base extensions for access to unload and reload your materials.
- Full enclosure for safety or additional dust containment.
- Variety of material-holding options, including T-slot, vacuum zones, and mechanical fixturing.
- 12-position to 24-position tool changers with option of an additional automatic tool changer.
- Automatic Tool Length Measuring Devices which provide quick and easy setup of tooling and helps prevent an operator from typing in the wrong tool length.
- Part-probing devices that perform in-process quality control and accept or reject a part before it is taken out of the work holding.
- Tool lubrication via Air Blast, MQL, Directional or Cold Air Blast.
Key features of the the E-Series:
- Heavy-duty thick steel construction for vibration absorption.
- FANUC® controls, servos and drives which provide, without question, the most reliable solution in the market.
FANUC advantages:- The largest control manufacturer in the world.
- Parts guaranteed for the life of the controller.
- Peace of mind when it comes to reliability and longevity. They measure their downtime in decades: 52 years mean time between failures.
- Every C.R. Onsrud FANUC control comes standard with the FANUC interface as well as our own user-friendly, touchscreen HMI, making it very simple for you to learn and operate.
- Manufactured in America.
- Designed, fabricated, machined, painted, assembled, and shipped from our factory in Troutman, NC.
