In this post, Tom Lesch with C.R. Onsrud (Troutman, North Carolina) introduces the 5-axis S-Series that demonstrates machining and trimming of a curved plywood chair part. The S-Series is for anyone who needs to cut dense materials, such as solid wood, advanced polymer plastics, composites, and nonferrous metals.
The single table moves longways under the bridge, an ergonomic design that gives operators unobstructed access to three sides of the table for easy loading and unloading of large workpieces and tooling. It also allows for the easy integration of material-handling systems, transfer tables, and a wide range of automation alternatives.
Some options and key features of the S-Series machine include:
- 5′ x 5′ to 10′ x 12′ Table Size. We are capable of wider and longer machine formats.
- Standard 12 hp spindle. The S-Series can be upgraded to 15 hp or 24 hp spindle. We also manufacture machines that support 33 hp, 50 hp, and 75 hp spindles.
- 29″ Z-Stroke. The S-Series is available with 41″ Z-Stroke option. We also manufacture machines that support 53″, 77″ and even 10′ Z-Stroke.
- Heavy-duty thick steel construction.
- Automatic Tool Measuring Device (option) provides quick and easy setup of tooling and helps prevent an operator from typing in the wrong tool length. We also have laser or contact devices that measure diameter.
- Air Blast. With a flexible hose, you can aim air at the tool tip. It is activated/deactivated by your CNC M-code.
- Cold air is used for plastic applications.
- Oil Mist Lubrication is offered for metal cutting (e.g., aluminum) applications.
- Vacuum table, which evenly disperses the vacuum throughout the entire table. We have a customer that asked us to plumb in vacuum separate from the table, so with that there are vacuum hoses connected to a manifold that supplies air and is controlled with the CNC controller.
- Standard 12-pocket tool changer. We can provide more tool pockets depending on your needs.
- Emergency Safety Cable. This feature is standard on our moving table machine. The rope encircles the machine 360°, so wherever the operator is, if there is an emergency and they need to stop the machine, they can pull the cable and put the machine in emergency stop (E-Stop).
- Pressure Sensitive Safety Strip. This feature is placed on the front and the back of the table. If there is any contact interference with the table, the machine will be put in emergency stop (E-Stop).
- FANUC® controls, servos and drives provide, without question, the most reliable solution in the market. FANUC advantages:
- The largest control manufacturer in the world.
- Parts guaranteed for the life of the controller.
- Peace of mind when it comes to reliability and longevity. They measure their downtime in decades: 52 years mean time between failures.
- Every C.R. Onsrud FANUC control comes standard with the FANUC interface as well as our own user-friendly, touchscreen HMI, making it very simple for you to learn and operate.
- Manufactured in America. Designed, fabricated, machined, painted, assembled, and shipped from our factory in Troutman, NC.
- Tailored to your needs and built to last.
