Ken Stissel with C.R. Onsrud (Troutman, North Carolina) introduces the ES-Series (Extreme S-Series) in this post. The S-Series/ES-Series configuration is for applications that have the floorspace and are better served by the single table moving in the longer direction for increased table access. The ES-Series provides you with more rigidity and precision than the standard S-Series offers when cutting heavy composites, aluminum, and a variety of other materials. The ES-Series is very popular in the aerospace and heavier pattern and mold making industries.
Key features of the ES-Series include:
- Single 5′ x 10′ or 5′ x 20′+ vacuum table options. The configuration provides ergonomic and easy table access.
The table moves longways under the bridge and extends out past the ram, giving you unobstructed access to three sides of the table for easy setup of tooling and loading, and unloading of materials.

- 20″–53″ Z-Stroke (28″ standard)
- Rigid, high-quality, steel frame construction for heavy-duty cutting and tight tolerances.
- Heavy-duty steel frame Bridge, Base, and Columns.
- The bridge spans the shorter dimension of the table for greater rigidity.
- Wide linear spacing
- Heavy-duty Z-Axis ram which helps reduce deflection of the spindle
- Large linear rails
- Spindle Speeds of 15hp (standard), 24hp and 33hp for high material removal rates and high-speed cutting at 24,000 rpm.
- Programmable air blast (option)
Blows compressed air towards the cut, removing the chips, allowing for higher rpm machining and faster feed rates.
- MQL (Minimum Quantity Lubrication) (option)
Using friction reduction technology and designed to dispense only the amount of lubricant needed for your specific application, a few ounces of MQL in a day is generally enough to keep tools cool, improve cut quality, and significantly extend the life of your tools. Throughout the machining day, your workpieces, equipment, tools, and even your floors stay dry. This option is primarily used for machining metals.
- Automatic Tool Length Measuring Device (option)
Provides quick and easy setup of tooling, and helps prevent an operator from typing in the wrong tool length. Hey, mistakes happen, but an option like this helps reduce that human error that we see from time to time.
