C.R. Onsrud – American Made Industrial CNC Machines

Composites Application

CNC MACHINES FOR COMPOSITES

The characteristics that make composites lightweight yet durable also make them tough to machine — unless that machine’s an Onsrud.

Our machines are engineered to handle harsh, dirty machining environments and the unique structural characteristics of composites.

Made with an Onsrud

Here are just some examples of the capabilities of our CNC machinery when it comes to composite materials:

Multi-Axis Trimming, Milling, Tapping, and Plunging

Intricate, complex composite molds

Contour Milling

Up to 5-sided Machining with a Fourth Axis

Optional Flood Coolant

Large Work Envelope for Oversized Parts

5-Axis simultaneous machining

Heavy-Duty Milling, Drilling, Tapping, and Sawing

Extra-large component machining

Machines Built For You

Most of our machines are ideal for processing a wide range of composites: thermoformed plastic, fiber reinforced material, carbon fiber, phenolic, honeycomb, and many other innovative materials that have additives and binding agents. We’ve listed the most common models used for machining composites — many add an enclosure or opt for one of the fully enclosed machines — but if these do not meet the needs of your specific application, one of our other machines might be a better fit for your shop floor.

Built for

composites

Our abrasion-resistant machines properly seal and cover the mechanical and electronic components. With protected motion-controlled components and drives, you maintain precision linear motion and extend the life of your machine.

We also offer additional options engineered for manufacturers working with composites. Air knives, for example, clear harmful debris from your linear guides.

Built for

you

Let us solve your manufacturing needs with a machine that fits the flow, and growth, of your production.

Don’t lose your composite material (and profits) to scrap or turn away jobs due to manufacturing limitations. Whether you’re making small or large, simple or complex products, let us show you how you can shorten your lead times, reduce costly manufacturing errors, and monitor your production to ensure maximum efficiency.

Built for

efficiency

When it comes to machining composites, we generally use high rpm (18,000-24,000), low torque spindles which are more efficient, reduce cycle time, lengthen tool life, and improve overall spindle reliability. Your specific application may require our 40,000 rpm spindles and ultrasonic knife capabilities.

You’ll deliver your products quickly, with consistently accurate dimensions, for a reliable fit and seamless product installation.
